Hello everyone!
Welcome to the first development blog for SimpleSnakeGame. In these blog series we’ll talk about the development process and progress. SimpleSnakeGame will be our first full game development project and our first development blog game, so there is a lot new for us. And we’re very excited to share every step of the process!
SimpleSnakeGame
To start, we will explain the concept of SimpleSnakeGame.
SimpleSnakeGame will be a game where you, the player, are a snake. Fancy that! You’ll have to collect all different kinds of items in order to complete levels. Each level will be unique; they will be a series of parts fit together to make every story come to life.
Gameplay-wise SimpleSnakeGame will be a lot like the traditional snake game we all know and love. But! there are a couple of small differences. Like we’ve said before you are collecting things in order to complete levels. This way, levels don’t go on forever like the traditional game. Also, you will be following the adventures of our little snake. There will be stories.
Each story will tell a part of the adventures of the snake. These stories will be told in many different locations. From a creepy dungeon to the deep blue waters of the ocean. Every location will show us a part of the snake’s adventure. Every location will have a still frame, an image that is connected to the story. These still frames will be accompanied by some text that will tell the story of the snake.
That’s about the main concept, without spoiling too much. To know the locations and complete story, you’ll have to play the game yourself!
Current state and main focus
Currently the game is far enough that it has all the basic mechanics, for example we have a snake that can slither around on a map. And we have a collection counter on screen that will indicate how many items you have collected, and how many are left. Since this is all very basic it doesn’t show everything we will eventually implement, but it is a start. One of the main difficulties was to determine a proper way of making all of the different levels. But we’re proud to say this is also something we’ve managed to figure out.
One of the things we constantly are doing is making assets for the game. There will be a lot needed to make it look like the visions we have for it. We’re working hard on textures, the still frames and even some custom music! Oh my!
Downloadable demo
Since there is a core concept of the game and we have figured out the absolute basics, we would like you to test this out for us. We’ve been working a lot with just placeholders, creating a demo version that shows off what we’ve accomplished so far. Don’t forget that this is our very first demo and there probably will be many more in the future. Don’t be too harsh on us! At the bottom are two buttons, one is to download the demo for SimpleSnakeGame. The other one is to answer a small questionaire about your gaming experience.
We’d love for you to play what we’ve made and tell us your feedback!
Thanks for reading, and have fun!
